Review: Warm Bodies

Warm Bodies
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In my opinion, this is one of the easiest and most enjoyable reads in the post-apocalyptic genre. The characters aren’t stiff, not even the dead ones. The story moves quickly, but still has lots of warm moments that help you relate to the many quirky characters. Marion makes this story work on every level and it deserves the accolades it has received. One reviewer compared “R”–the primary narrator of the novel– to Frankenstein’s monster. But, in “Warm Bodies”, we get a much clearer, real, and more humorous view of R’s quest for humanity and love than Shelley ever provided.

The Morning Stretch #6

Sometimes simple is better. Write a short, descriptive paragraph (100 words or less) on any subject using only words of one or two syllables.

Chaitan weighed just under sixteen pounds at his four-month check-up. I guessed too heavy and my string of three straight wins in our “guess the weight” pool was ended. But I won’t hold this against my grandson. I’m now his full-time nanny so I’ll blame the miss on the cute rolls of baby fat that I see each time I change his diaper, the ache in my left arm when I walk him to sleep at nap time, and the strong pull he exerts on my heart each day.
